K by Karen Berger is the only woman-owned and run cigar company in the industry, starting her cigar journey by taking a job in a local nicaraguan factory rolling cigars, Karen Berger, then met the factory owner Don Kiki Berger and the two went on to marry.

Don Kiki encouraged Karen's passion for cigars and business and they worked together until Don Kiki's death in 2014. After which Karen was determined to carry on his legacy and not only kept the brand going but also wanted to expand with new blends and products.

After expending the original Don Kiki lineup, Karen decided in 2016 to introduce a new line under her own name - K by Karen Berger. Overseeing every element of the products bearing her name all the way through from selecting blends. The cigars are handmade at Tabacalera Esteli Cigars Factory (Esteli, Nicaragua).

A  beautiful box-pressed cigar with crisp edges and square in form. It is  silky smooth to the touch and is neatly finished with a triple cap to  complete the presentation. The K by Karen Berger Connecticut is a solid  96 scored cigar with a beautiful burn and premium construction, while  delivering palate pleasing flavours such as spice, chocolate butter and  fruit.

Received this as a birthday present so thankfully I didn’t waste my money on it, because I got to say, I have never had a more unpleasant smoking experience. For a £21 stick made in the same factory as AJ Fernandez, to say the build and quality control was abysmal would be an understatement. Runs and tunnels on the underside required constant burn corrections and very little if any smoking. Sadly, it was only the final third that resembled a proper cigar, and I could actually smoke and taste it. Flavour-wise, it was actually a very nice blend but as stated I only got to experience the final third or so. Would’ve love to be able to try the whole thing. As my brothers cigar (exact same) was burning just fine, my verdict on the Salomon is that quality control is very very hit and miss. I would avoid the Salomon like the plague and try a different vitola instead. Can’t recommend this one at all.
