JOYA DE NICARAGUA

50 years ago, Joya de Nicaragua pioneered an industry by crafting the first cigars to ever come out of Nicaragua. Today, they are thriving like never before, thanks to their skilful and resilient people. For JDN, quality is not an obligation, it is their highest commitment.

BLACK

Joya Black follows the footsteps of Joya Red but takes the experience up a notch by incorporating a dark Mexican wrapper with Nicaraguan fillers. A medium-bodied, full flavour smoke especially designed and blended for the modern smoker.

This Joya perfectly captures the bold, earthy character that Nicaraguan cigars are known for. As someone still learning the nuances of cigar profiles, I’ve found Joya to be one of the most consistent and rewarding brands to explore. Every cigar in their range feels thoughtfully made, with reliable construction and a clear sense of identity. The overall flavor profile leans toward rich, full-bodied notes—earth, spice, coffee, and cocoa—balanced by subtle sweetness and depth. Even their lighter offerings, like the Cabinetta, carry a distinct Nicaraguan warmth, while blends such as the Red, Black, and Antaño showcase increasing layers of strength and complexity. What stands out most is how each cigar seems to build upon the next, offering a clear path of progression for anyone developing their palate. Draws are typically smooth, the smoke output generous, and the burn performance consistently reliable. Joya cigars invite you to slow down and appreciate the craftsmanship behind every leaf. For me, the brand represents confidence and authenticity—bold flavors without pretense, and quality that never feels inaccessible. Rating: 8/10

Nice flavour but terrible build quality. Tight draw with low smoke output. The caps were also not stuck on very well and frayed when smoking. To be honest I have smoked a few Joya de Nicaragua cigars and I was not impressed with the build quality of any of them. Its a pity because they always have nice flavour profile. I definitely will not buy this brand of cigar again.

A classic joya blend but wrapped into a stronger and oily Mexican wrapper from the Turrent family giving a stronger, dark coffee and leather experience. David - C.Gars Ltd Cigar Ambassador

Takes a few to discover the character of this flavourful, slow burner. Easily lasts a good television programme, even in the exciting bits re-lights are rare - and they burn easily. Its a soft pull. Quite strong, with lots of flavour, its a rawer affair than a Cohiba or a Romeo - but then what do you expect? To me they have been more consistent and dependable. So the value rating is high, as for the cost the outcome is good. Perhaps they need to be a little on the dryer side to offer their best?
