Jose L. Piedra is a particularly noteworthy Habano not only because its blend is composed of filler tobaccos grown exclusively in the Remedios tobacco region, but also because it is made using the totally hand made, short filler technique.

The Piedra family came to Cuba in the 1880's from the Spanish province of Asturias. They settled near the town of Santa Clara, which lies at the heart of the Remedios region where tobacco has been grown since the 16th century, and started to make cigars.

Tasting Notes

Hand rolled with short filler. Very pleasant taste and aroma.

Well, I read Richard's review and would go along with his comments; JLP cigars can be a bit hit-and-miss, though, with Cgars returns policy, you can always go for a refund or replacement as I did (with the customary rapid response from Cgars - good customer care!). I've also found that, if you get a well-rolled batch, it's a pleasant smoke down to the end and extremely good value for the price. If you get a tight-rolled one (often up to 5-6 in a batch of 25), you can need a small industrial pump to draw, and need to clip the end a couple of times to prevent a build-up of tars. Having said all that, it's a nice cigar for a very, very reasonable price, and has been my choice of an everyday cigar for some time. It just about creeps into the 4 star range, due mainly to Cgars Rapid Response Team...

Nearly didn't buy these based on the last review, but all six that I bought were perfect. I'm on the hunt for a decent short smoke, and these fit the bill. I can understand Ash's comments though, as my experience with the full size Cazadores has not been so good.

Awful. Just plain awful. Lit this up in a room full of half a dozen other smokers, and had to let it go out as it stank to high heaven and was smoking up the place. Relit it a couple of days later and still found it to be nasty (it might as well have been soaked in motor oil), so i binned it. Had to throw away the tube i kept it in too, as no amount of Febreeze and washing would get rid of the disgusting smell it left. I wanted to try the Petit Cetros i bought before i made any brash review on this one, and found that to be just as bad. If by some freakish misfortune, i happened to end up with two extremely bad examples, i'm not sure. But i don't think i will be trying Jose L PIedra again.

One of the best in this brand I feel. Lots of different flavours and quite balanced. Had a bit of a kick in it though. I've found a lot of these have quite tight draws though, which is really unfortunate.

A bargain of an after-lunch cigar. I'm not normally a Cuban smoker (yes, I know it's blasphemy), preferring the milder Dominican end of things - but these are a far milder than usual experience, and the smaller format stops them being a Cuban-headache-inducer. They're not particularly sophisticated or complex, but at £3.50 a pop they're a good value everyday proposition.
