FONSECA

Don Francisco Fonseca founded his brand in the 1890's.

A handsome man, who cared deeply for appearances, he passed his sartorial precision on to his cigars, which he dressed in a silky tissue paper - a tradition that continues to this day on all the Habanos that bear his name.

The image of Francisco Fonseca, who developed this brand in 1906, still adorns the box today. Only in limited distribution, the Fonseca brand is considered to exhibit a rich but mild flavour. Fonseca's delicate blend of filler and binder tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo zone makes it the ideal Habano to follow a light meal.

All UK sizes of Fonseca are tripa larga, ‘totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.

KDT CADETE

A well-priced, small cigar dependent on its seco leaf to capture the flavour of Vuelta Abajo.

Tasting Notes

Lovely smooth easy smoke, the construction is good, the flavors a bit flat, in the sweet-earthy profile. A small cigar with big boy characteristics.

It`s a shame that in the cigar world, "small" is seen as "bad" and "mild" is seen as "not worth bothering with. These are excellent, well made little cigars, characterful and pleasant. There`s a Quintero like undertone to them (although they`re better made (and not as strong) ) - a very pleasant alternative to a Petit Upmann (totally different smoke) and definitely worthy of box purchase. Shame Fonseca isn`t better known - I understand they`re widely available in Spain - but this is a very good short smoke. Recommended. written by Dave Francis

One of the best small, cheap cubans you can buy. Very consistant, Ive had about 10 of these so far and have yet to get a bad one. Plenty of flavour and decent strength. Highly recommended. written by Poleson

I smoked a couple of these over the weekend and then again last night while walking the dog. It is a super smoke for the size and money smooth but plenty of flavour, seemed to get better after the first 3/4", and did not burn too hot either, the only down side was a slightly tight draw, but otherwise gets 9 out of ten. written by Simon
