OLIVA

The Oliva Cigar story began in the late 1800s, when Melanio Oliva started growing cigar tobacco in Cuba. His heirs carried on the family tradition in the fields, but it was his grandson Gilberto Oliva Sr. who began making cigars.

Nicaraguan tobacco helped Oliva survive. The cigar that brought it to the attention of connoisseurs debuted in 2006: Oliva Serie V. Made by a small group of rollers and blended for strength and style, the Serie V line was an immediate hit. In 2012, to pay tribute to the first man in the family to grow cigar tobacco, Oliva added the Melanio version, which is distinguished from the original by its Sumatra-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador. The No. 1 Cigar of the Year 2014, Oliva Serie V Melanio Figuarado has rich, big notes of leather framed by a range of coffee, caramel and woody intonations. It’s a classic smoke.

FLOR DE OLIVA

Crafted from Oliva's Nicaraguan long-leaf tobaccos which undergo a meticulous aging process, which gives you a flavourful, rich and cream blend without the bite.

Tasting Notes

This medium-bodied cigar offers rich earthy flavors that will charm your sense from first puff to last.

The Flor de Oliva was a pleasant surprise, considering it’s one of the more budget-friendly cigars I’ve come across. Right away, it delivered a nice balance of flavors: earthy, slightly sweet, with touches of cedar and nuts. The construction wasn’t flawless—there were a couple of uneven burn issues—but overall it smoked much better than I expected at this price. The draw was easy, producing plenty of smoke, which made it enjoyable to puff on. About halfway through, I noticed a more pronounced sweetness, almost like caramel, mixed with a bit of spice. It’s not overly complex, but it doesn’t feel boring either. The strength is medium, making it approachable for someone like me still learning what I like. Toward the end, it picked up a little more body, with more wood and spice, though it never got harsh. This cigar feels like a great daily option—affordable enough not to worry about, but flavorful enough to keep you interested. It’s not in the same league as some of the premium cigars I’ve tried, but it definitely punches above its weight. Rating: 7/10

Another one that surprised me. Very nice cigar. Loved it. Well constructed. Good notes throughout and just a very pleasurable cigar from beginning to end. Good value. Definitely a cigar I would buy again and recommend to both the seasoned smokers and newbies.

Great construction all the way to the end, Held ash well over 1.5 inches. Smooth creamy smoke (plenty of), Tobacco, Wood, Espresso and bitter chocolate all the way to the nub which took me 80 minutes. (I am a slow smoker). Spice from start to finish stayed the same never getting too hot it was just a little too spicy for me hence only 4 stars but that's only because of my taste.

A wonderful cigar, smooth. Paired perfect with a pint of London Black sitting in the Hackney sun... I had a "moment".
