WINSTON CHURCHILL - THE LATE HOUR

Davidoff proudly adds a new family member to its The Late Hour series - The Petit Panetela provides appreciators of the blend with an opportunity for a shorter enjoyment. The Davidoff Master Blenders have risen to the challenge of creating a small-format medium-filler cigar which delights with complexity and signature Davidoff balance and which is as multi-faceted as the great aficionado’s character.

Sir Winston Churchill was not a man to follow convention. When most people were thinking of their beds, Sir Winston found inspiration and creativity in the long dark hours of the night. The dark was where he found his spark.

Davidoff celebrates this facet of the Great Man with a special cigar – The Late Hour.

“Winston Churchill - The Late Hour” contains tobacco aged for six months in finest Scotch single malt whisky casks, a feat no one has attempted before.

The tobacco absorbs the aromas of the cask and whisky, which suffuses the cigar with a unique complexity, depth and the headiest of flavours, creating a unique stimulation of the palate.

To reflect the darkness during which Sir Winston was his most creative, Davidoff has selected a shiny and oily Ecuador wrapper in a beautiful dark chocolate colour.

“Every man has his day and some days last longer than others” – Sir Winston Spencer Churchill.

This is easily one of my favourite cigars in the smaller format. While it’s on the pricier side for its length and ring gauge, the flavour profile more than makes up for it. Expect rich dark chocolate notes, a touch of malt, and a pleasant underlying sweetness. In the final third, the sweetness deepens and the chocolate really comes into its own. Well worth trying if you don’t mind the premium price tag. I originally brought a single then came back for this tin to have some in my humidor for when the time comes.

The Davidoff The Late Hour felt like a cigar designed for slower, more deliberate smoking, and it immediately stood out from other Davidoff blends I’ve tried. Knowing that the tobacco is aged in Scotch whisky casks added a layer of intrigue before lighting, though the cigar never leans into gimmicks. On the cold draw, I picked up dark cocoa, leather, and a slightly sweet, malty note. Once lit, the smoke was rich and dense, with flavors of espresso, dark chocolate, and oak dominating the first third. The strength was medium-to-full, but impressively smooth. There was a refined bitterness—like strong black coffee—that stayed balanced rather than sharp. As the cigar progressed, subtle sweetness crept in, along with hints of dried fruit and spice, rounding out the darker profile nicely. Construction was excellent throughout: an even burn, effortless draw, and consistent smoke output. By the final third, the cigar deepened further, becoming more earthy and leathery while maintaining control and elegance. For me, The Late Hour felt like Davidoff stepping confidently into richer territory without sacrificing refinement. It’s bold, composed, and rewarding—ideal for evenings when you want something darker but still polished. Rating: 8/10

A nice smoke, lasted about 40 minutes first 2/3rds were nice but of earth then cream, last 3rd was slightly too spicy for me, I’ve got a few more I’ll leave in humidor longer

This was a great cigar one thing about The Davidoff Winston Churchill The Late Hour Petit Panetela bad about it is the price (big price for a little cigar). Construction was perfect, even burn and perfect draw. Very good flavours of chocolate and earthy notes with a little bit of spice (black pepper) If not for price it would be a 10 out of 10 cigar. If price doesn't matter for you it's a must try
