The Mystery Cigar
What a great surprise! When I saw the option to add a Mystery Cigar to my order for £10, I couldn’t resist pressing “Enter.”
When the package arrived, I was buzzing with excitement to unpack it. The cigar was packed separately, and even though I was tired from the week, I decided to spend the early evening enjoying it with my favourite Boulevardier cocktail. I had kept it outside my humidor since receiving it—I've found that letting cigars rest at room temperature for 24–36 hours often brings out a better flavour than smoking them straight from the humidor.
Every time I held it, I wondered where it was made. The vitola was just the style I prefer: long and not too thick, around a corona gorda size. I measured it at 6¾ inches by 46 ring gauge and 14.9g in weight. The construction was impressive—firm, smooth, and wrapped in a beautiful colorado claro leaf with a double cap and a classy look.
The cold draw didn’t reveal much beyond a dry, grassy character typical of Cuban or Dominican blends. The first third offered a mild mix of grassy and mineral notes with a slightly salty touch. The burn started uneven but corrected itself by the second third. The ash was flaky yet held well for about half an inch. As the cigar progressed, the flavours evolved nicely into a creamy profile with subtle vanilla and biscuit notes. The burn became razor-sharp, producing pleasantly aromatic smoke that filled the air beautifully.
Second and Final Third
As I continued, my best guess is that this cigar is either Dominican or Honduran in origin, based on its flavour progression and quality construction. Around the halfway point, a distinct pepper note appeared, giving the cigar more depth. It shifted from light and mild to a solid medium-bodied experience, with a gentle nicotine kick that I really enjoyed.
During the final third of my smoke, the cigar remained tasty and continued to develop a consistent aroma throughout. Impressively, there was no bitter finish—something I often expect in longer cigars. Instead, it delivered satisfying flavour and aroma right down to the nub.
Overall, the Mystery Cigar was a fun experience—full of curiosity, craftsmanship, and evolving flavour. I’d definitely order it again to see what the next “mystery” brings.
