COHIBA

Cohiba is the flagship brand of Habanos.

It was created in 1966 for President Fidel Castro himself and was made at the then top secret, but now world famous, El LLaguito factory. At first, it was only seen outside Cuba as gifts for heads of state and visiting diplomats.

Since 1982 Cohiba has been available in limited quantities to the open market.

The name is an ancient Taino Indian word for the bunches of tobacco leaves that Columbus first saw being smoked by the original inhabitants of Cuba - the earliest known form of a Habano.

The leaves for Cohiba are the "selection of selection" from the 5 finest Vegas de Primera in San Juan y Martinez and San Luis districts of the Vuelta Abajo zone.

Uniquely amongst Habanos up to three of Cohiba's filler leaves , the seco, ligero and the rare medio tiempo, undergo an additional fermentation in barrels. This unique process produces a special aroma and flavour you will only find in Cohiba.

Cohiba encompasses four different ‘Líneas’ or Lines: Línea Clásica, Línea 1492, Línea Maduro 5 and finally the Línea Behike range.

Through such constant innovation, Cohiba has held its position at the leading edge of the cigar world. It was also the first Havana brand to offer a Reserva cigar in 2002 and a Gran Reserva in 2009 made with tobaccos specially aged for a minimum of three and five years respectively.

WIDE SHORT

The Cuban Minis portfolio’s most recent addition is the Cohiba Wide Short. Made in Havana at the ITC factory these new Cohibas are made by machine using the same blend of tobaccos as their handmade counterparts.

Presented in the famous yellow and black of Cohiba the Wide Shorts are wider and longer than the standard Shorts, launched in 2016.

With a smoking time of around 20 minutes they provide the opportunity to enjoy a brief, and affordable, taste of the finest Cuban tobacco in the world.

Now that was a good small cigar! At first i was dubious but as soon as i lit it and caught that beautiful aroma i knew i was going to enjoy it. It burned great, was constructed great and wow what a complex flavour profile that changed and evolved surprisingly well for such a short cigar. Notes of bread, nuts and caramel. Earthy and mellow. It blew me away how much flavour it had going on and how complex it was. Lasted me about 25 minutes. Will buy again. Will recommend!

Generally well constructed albeit a few little shred of tobacco departed towards the end of smoking. This took me c30 minutes to smoke. Had it with a coffee but it was distinctly underwhelming compared to even Cohiba shorts which have a far superiod flavour. OK but hasn't earned a place in my humidor and you can definitely buy better smokes at this price point.

It was great and definitely worth the price, will last you long of you smoke it slowly and the flavour is very rich and gentle at the same time. Nothing bad to say about it.

Just at the end of a very enjoyable half hour with this cigar. The burn has been even but I've had to relight 6 times which isn't an issue for me. It is windy outside which hasn't helped. A very creamy flavour for me, enjoyed with a very creamy 8 year old whisky... from Lidl, but nice all the same!

This is a decent little cigar for the price. Held together nicely and had a good even burn. The draw was certainly on the loose side, definitely not tight at all. It is clearly nothing like a usual Cohiba in terms of its quality but its worth remembering it isn't anything like the price of a larger one either. It lasted around 15 minutes or so which was ideal. It is also of course a little bigger than many other shorts so I didn't get the irrating burn when smoking it right down to the end. At this price point I wouldn't put you off if you are looking for a quick smoke, just don't expect a 'conventional Cohiba'. I would describe the strength as somewhere between mild and medium. Flavours were present but nothing notible stood out if that makes sense. In summary this a good short cigar and something I will order again.
