COHIBA

Cohiba is the flagship brand of Habanos.

It was created in 1966 for President Fidel Castro himself and was made at the then top secret, but now world famous, El LLaguito factory. At first, it was only seen outside Cuba as gifts for heads of state and visiting diplomats.

Since 1982 Cohiba has been available in limited quantities to the open market.

The name is an ancient Taino Indian word for the bunches of tobacco leaves that Columbus first saw being smoked by the original inhabitants of Cuba - the earliest known form of a Habano.

The leaves for Cohiba are the "selection of selection" from the 5 finest Vegas de Primera in San Juan y Martinez and San Luis districts of the Vuelta Abajo zone.

Uniquely amongst Habanos up to three of Cohiba's filler leaves , the seco, ligero and the rare medio tiempo, undergo an additional fermentation in barrels. This unique process produces a special aroma and flavour you will only find in Cohiba.

LINEA 1492 - SIGLO III

The Cohiba Línea 1492 range was first announced at a reception at the Captain General's Palace in Havana on 4th November 1992, which took place during a Festival held to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus.

The Linea 1492, originally consisting of five sizes - Siglo I, II, III, IV and V before the VI was introduced in 2002, were expressly introduced to mark Columbus's 500th Anniversary and each Siglo (which means 'Century' in Spanish) commemorates one the five subsequent centuries.

The Linea 1492 is classified as medium flavoured and remains the lightest flavoured line of Cohibas.

Please note: Matches not included.

Tasting Notes

One of the best of its format. This cigar is creamy yet spicy and always has great construction.

88 / 100

"Notes of steel-cut oats and almond cookie manage to get through the firm draw of this pale-looking corona, but the finish is overwhelmingly woody...."

Smoked my first one of these out of several I’ve been keeping for a while. It did not disappoint. Slightly firm draw but nothing to complain about and the first two thirds were simply delicious. I like this ring gauge, and it lasted for well over an hour smoking in the sun with a cold beer. The last third was fairly hot but did not detract from the flavour. I am a fan of cohiba anyway but am having trouble justifying the price nowadays. Still, having said that, it was an enjoyable smoke and time well spent

I had five of these sticks sat in my humidor for approx ten months before finally lighting one up. I have now smoked four of them and one was very good, one was good and two were really poor. The two poor sticks had very tight draws and the wrapper began crumbling and falling away as I reached half way. I did really enjoy the stick that behaved itself all the way down to the last draw, but I do think there are many better value for money cigars out there. I have one left and have my fingers crossed it is a good one.

Fourth Cuban tried! I was quite looking forward to this as it had no flaws bar one, taking a draw was soo hard!!!!! Cut it, quite far down now and tried to poke out to see if that would help, no luck!! Had to take multiple draws to get a good amount of smoke. Would need one of the cigar tools next time if I decide to try again. Don’t think I will Will stick to montecristo and cohiba robusto from now on.

Mild but delicious, one of my favorites, this is definitely my favorite Cohiba of the ones I have tried so far

Just smoked one tonight I’m a relatively new cigar smoker and couldn’t wait to try a Cohiba. Beautiful construction and burn with a decent draw found the cigar to be mild with light flavours of sweet tobacco with herbal notes in the final third. All in all a very enjoyable smoke which would be great on a hot summers day/night with a nice single malt better than my surroundings of a wet north east of England 😀would still buy again but prefer something little bit stronger with more prominent flavour
