Alberto and Alejandro Turrent, owners of Nueva Matacapan de Tabacos S.A. de C.V, are the first family of Mexico’s cigar industry. The father-son team not only makes some of Mexico’s best cigars but are also the largest grower of cigar tobacco in the country. The San Andres Maduro leaf they grow outside of Veracruz is world renowned for its quality, and a variety of their tobaccos are important components in many of America’s most popular premium cigar brands. 

The Casa Turrent Origenes Nicaragua cigar has been hand rolled with a Mexican grown Connecticut wrapper, Mexican grown Criollo binder with Mexican grown Criollo and Dominican filler tobaccos.

This is a medium to full bodied cigar with earthy and wood flavours throughout the smoke which has hints of cocoa on the palate.

I enjoyed this from start to finish, Well constructed and smoked lovely with a perfect draw. I didnt want this one to end it really surprised me and will definitely purchase more of these if they are all as good.


This was included in the July Cigar Subscription box and it was a right little cracker! I say little but it actually lasted a good 45 minutes, even though Im known for making my way through a cigar quicker than most people. The woody flavours were present right from the start and it developed nicely until the last puff. Combined with a great burn and excellent ash, this is definitely one Ill be coming back to whenever Im after a smooth yet flavourful smoke.

