Alberto and Alejandro Turrent, owners of Nueva Matacapan de Tabacos S.A. de C.V, are the first family of Mexico’s cigar industry. The father-son team not only makes some of Mexico’s best cigars but are also the largest grower of cigar tobacco in the country. The San Andres Maduro leaf they grow outside of Veracruz is world renowned for its quality, and a variety of their tobaccos are important components in many of America’s most popular premium cigar brands.

To keep the consistency of their flagship Casa Turrent line, Alejandro decided a large factory was not the best place to make the more complex Casa series. In June, Alejandro took his great-grandfather’s house and renovated it to make a boutique factory with 15 people to produce the Casa Turrent series.

Tasting Notes

Named for the birth year of Alberto Turrent, this cigar uses a Mexican San Andres Negro Colorado wrapper, with a San Andres Criollo leaf binder and a filler blend of Negro San Andres and Nicaraguan tobacco. This creates a medium to full bodied cigar that is spicy without being aggressive.

First let me thank Casa Turrent, and (Maxican people) so much for this great Cigar. Medium to full body, the draw, burn, and construction are amazing. Varied bouquet of Flavors, aromas, and after tastes.. Such as ... woody, leather, coffee, chocolate, hint of cinnamon, and rich smoke. I will make sure keeps a large number of these woooow fancy sticks in my cigar humidors. Thank you so much C.GARS , Michelle Adler for all excellent choices and services. ✨


Personally I am not generally inclined to either the taste or strength of Mexican cigars, but this one was most certainly an exception. It was not one that I was pleased to find out as being the mystery cigar in the December subscription box, although it turned out to be a pleasant surprise in the end. Spicy with a hint of sweetness, smooth and creamy with no hint of bitterness, fairly strong yet not overly so, lots of aromatic smoke, a consistently even burn and an absolute joy from initial light to stub. Bravo to the person deciding to add it to the subscription box and helping to change my mind a little about Mexican cigars as a result.

