Description

An ongoing exploratory series of single casks, specifically selected to examine the evolutionary influences on maturing Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky - the variables of age, wood, barley, storage location, humidity, heat and marine climate - the very essence of provenance.

Like its island neighbour Bunnahabhain distillery, Bruichladdich has traditionally been an un-peated single malt, mostly owing to its requirements by the blenders who owned it.

The last of these was Whyte & Mackay, who eventually shut it down in 1995, deeming it surplus to requirements.

They sold the distillery to Murray McDavid in 2001, who launched the peated Port Charlotte and heavily-peated Octomore single malts in 2006 and 2008.

A recommissioned Lomond still also now produces the popular Botanist gin there.

This is a single cask within the Micro Provenance series from Bruichladdich. Cask #300 was filled on 24th February 2011 and bottled on 10th May 2023.

Tasting Notes

Nose: The bouquet speaks of most succulent fruits you can imagine; cantaloupe melon, peach, apricot, plump ripe red grapes with a hint of dark plums.

Palate: The malty, oak flavours give a biscuit creamy citrus buttery flavour to the spirit with tastes of honey and toffee. They provide the traditional flavours of Bruichladdich.

Finish: There is strength and finesse, elegant and full of latent power, oodles of succulent fruit and mellow tannins that hold the structure beautifully in harmony.
