Description

The foundation for The Classic Laddie 10 Aged Years is not a recipe set in stone, but a distilling philosophy.

Never striving for absolute consistency, each batch of The Classic Laddie will, by nature, be unique and subtly different.

Creating The Classic Laddie is one of the most complex and demanding responsibilities for Master Blender, Adam Hannett, who curates this assemblage of our finest spirits by hand to achieve our signature citrus and floral Bruichladdich house style.

Composing each unique recipe is a rigorous process. Adam must systematically sample and evaluate every spirit by nose, taste and mouthfeel. It is painstaking and difficult work, requiring a clear head and many checks, pauses and re-evaluations over many weeks. The final formula is decided in the quiet of his sample room.

Bruichladdich bottle The Classic Laddie at 50% ABV, instead of the 40-46% ABV usually sound in Scotch whisky.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Beautifully fragrant, ripe orchard fruits, toasted oak and floral notes open on the nose. Fresh lemon rind and citrus orange complement the marine quality of the spirit. A medley of sundried fruits blends seamlessly with the oak, with fresh apricot, mango and ripe peach coming to the fore. The oak brings notes of vanilla, crème brûlée and a hint of toffee, with a subtle touch of warm gingerbread.

Palate: Incredibly smooth and rounded in texture, sweet orange citrus, candied peel, and stone fruits are balanced with malt barley sugar and toasted bread. The oak brings warmth and complexity, with notes of marzipan, coconut, ground almonds and cedar. Ripe orchard fruits bring a fresh succulence to the palate, with delicate floral notes of geranium and rose punctuating the slight salty tang.

Finish: Bruichladdich’s signature character shines on the finish. The spirit’s subtle minerality is beautifully balanced with a delicate floral perfume, with lingering notes of ripe stone fruits and citrud.
