Description Ref # 14920156

The Bolívar Tubos No. 2 cigar opens with a bold expression of earth, leather, and black pepper, true to the brand’s full-bodied character. From the cold draw, you’ll detect notes of cedarbarnyard, and dark cocoa, with the foot offering a slightly sweet, woody aroma. Upon lighting the cigar, the first third delivers dense, oily smoke loaded with earthy richnessespresso bitterness, and a touch of mineral sharpness on the finish. The retrohale is peppery, adding a vibrant kick that lingers.

In the second third, the cigar settles into a deeper rhythm, developing complexity with notes of toasted nutsmolasses, and hints of baking spice. The pepper softens, allowing more chocolate and leather to come through, while the draw remains firm and satisfying. The burn of the cigar is typically clean and even, with the aluminium tube helping preserve the cigar's moisture and aroma for longer periods.

In the final third, strength builds again, and flavors concentrate into a rich core of dark roast coffeecharred wood, and salted earth. A subtle anise or licorice note may appear near the nub, adding intrigue to the long, powerful finish. Compact yet complex, the Bolívar Tubos No. 2 cigar is an excellent choice for aficionados seeking a bold, traditional Cuban experience in a portable, age-worthy format.

The History of Bolivar cigars

Simon Bolivar was one of the great historic figures of the 19th Century who liberated much of South America from Spanish rule.

The Bolivar cigar brand was created in 1902 and is based today in the Partagas factory which is in the heart of Havana.

It is perhaps not surprising that a Habano named after such a powerful figure is blended to match his might. Bolivar is among the strongest, most full bodied of all Habanos. It boasts an unrivalled richness of flavour in its blend of Vuelta Abajo zone filler and binder tobacco that makes it one of the most sought-after marques amongst experienced smokers.

All sizes of Bolivar are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano,’ – long filler, totally handmade. It is the brand of choice for enthusiasts who like strong flavours!

Tasting Notes

Overall Impression:

The Bolívar Tubos No. 2 cigar delivers a bold, full-bodied Cuban cigar experience in a compact and convenient Petit Corona format. Despite its modest size, this cigar offers impressive depth and complexity, showcasing hallmark Bolívar flavors of earth, leather, espresso, and dark chocolate, with a peppery backbone and subtle sweetness that evolve throughout the smoke. Housed in a protective aluminium tube, it maintains freshness and makes an excellent travel companion or gift. Perfect for seasoned smokers, the Bolivar Tubos No. 2 provides a rich, satisfying smoke that punches well above its size - a true reflection of the brand’s powerful reputation.

Drink Pairings

  • Aged Dark Rum (e.g., Ron Zacapa 23, Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva) - complements the cigar’s natural sweetness and earthy spice.

  • Peaty Islay Scotch (e.g., Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 10) - enhances the cigar’s smoky, peppery character and adds complexity.

  • Espresso or Black Coffee - mirrors the coffee and dark chocolate flavors for a balanced, bold pairing.

  • Full-bodied Red Wine (e.g., Malbec, Syrah/Shiraz) - matches the cigar’s intensity with rich fruit and tannins.

  • Cognac or Armagnac - adds warmth and smoothness, balancing the cigar’s robust flavor profile.

Food Pairings

  • Dark Chocolate (70–85%) - amplifies the cigar’s cocoa and bitter notes.

  • Charcuterie - cured meats like Jamón Ibérico or spicy chorizo highlight the cigar’s savory, spicy edges.

  • Grilled or Roasted Meats - lamb chops, ribeye, or smoked brisket enhance the cigar’s earthiness and depth.

  • Aged Hard Cheeses - Manchego, aged Gouda, or sharp cheddar add nutty, umami richness.

  • Spiced Nuts or Trail Mix - light, savory snacks that complement the cigar’s complex spice and earth tones.

These pairings accentuate the Bolívar Tubos No. 2’s rich, bold character and make for a deeply satisfying cigar experience.

"Nice color on the wrapper of this cigar, though the construction could be tighter. It still smokes evenly, giving cedary impressions along with some leather and earth."

The Bolívar No.2 Tubos was a cigar I approached with a mix of excitement and caution, since the brand has a reputation for being fuller-bodied and more intense than some of the Cubans I’ve tried so far. Opening the tubo, I was greeted with that distinct Cuban aroma—earthy, woody, and a little sweet. The construction was excellent, with a solid feel and no soft spots. On the cold draw, I picked up subtle notes of hay and cedar, with just a hint of spice. Once lit, the cigar wasted no time in showing character. The first third delivered rich, earthy flavors, backed by a peppery spice that tingled on the tongue. It wasn’t overpowering, but it definitely had more bite than, say, a Romeo y Julieta No.2. The smoke was thick and aromatic, with hints of leather and roasted coffee coming through as it developed. The draw was smooth, and the burn stayed mostly even throughout, needing only a small correction near the middle. By the halfway point, the cigar settled into a satisfying balance of wood, cocoa, and spice, with a touch of sweetness keeping things interesting. Toward the final third, the strength ramped up, but it never crossed into harshness—just a bold, confident finish. Overall, the Bolívar No.2 Tubos felt like a step up in intensity from other Cubans I’ve enjoyed, but still very manageable for someone like me who’s exploring different brands. A great introduction to the Bolívar profile, offering strength, complexity, and refinement in one neat package. Rating: 8/10

I really enjoyed smoking the Bolivar Tubos No. 2. It had rich, earthy flavors with hints of leather and spice, lasting around 45 minutes. It’s a solid smoke, but not something I’d reach for often. Still, a good experience overall.
