Description

Flora & Fauna bottling of Benrinnes 15 years old. Unusually triple distilled Speyside malt.

One of the surviving Flora and Fauna, the Benrinnes 15 year old presented in a wooden box, which has been discontinued for some years.

Distillerys Company Ltd (DCL/Diageo) created the Flora and Fauna series in the early 1990s, when DCL sold the distillery to Inverhouse distillers this bottle was discontinued.

The Flora and Fauna range was released in 1991 to huge acclaim by the public and experts alike.

Such was the popularity of the releases, the collection was added to years later with four further distilleries, making up the series.

Please note as this is a vintage bottle, conditions of bottle/label and liquid level can vary - Some years can vary as estimations only (example: estimated 1970s/80s).

Tasting Notes

Nose: A rich nose, presenting an early impression of chocolate liqueurs - perhaps rum filled, although there is a light sherry-wood note as well. Light smokiness, and a dense floral note. 'Vintage car upholstery' describes it best. An evocative combination of old leather, oil, burnt rubber and exhaust fumes.

Palate: Richly sweet, full, rum-like, with a centre palate impact. In spite of the sweetness, not cloying.

Finish: Dries out slightly in the finish, where there is also a 'catch' which might be taken for peat-smoke. Medium length, leaving a faintly sherried aftertaste.
