The Ashton Pipe brand was created on 1983 by pipe maker Bill Ashton-Taylor and the renowned pipe aficionado R D Field. The following year Robert Levin, following discussion with R D Field, named his new cigars Ashton based on the excellent reputation built by Ashton pipes.

Having created some of the finest pipes and cigars in the world the next step for Ashton was the highest possible quality of pipe tobacco.

Firstly I must confess that English blends are my favourite so I might be bias towards this tobacco as it is a very good English. I bought my first tin back in April. Straight out of the tin the earthy sweet smell of an autumn campfire hit me, wonderful! I grade my tobacco 1-10 and I grave this a 9 however, smoking a bowl this morning 4 months later I gave it a 10. It definitely benefited from some aging. As a contrast my favourite English is Peterson My Mixture 965 which I also gave a 10. Aston Consummate Gentleman is great value for money IMO. I am definitely going to buy some more and put them in my cellar.

Medium in strength, providing a medium to full bodied taste profile. Expect a traditional classic English blend. Although the flavour and aroma isn't intense compared to other similar English mixtures, it's more gentle which I personally enjoy as it isn't too overwhelming. This blend can be enjoyed at any time of the day. Michael - C.Gars Ltd

This was a tough one for me, on the one hand I found it lacking in flavour, but on the other hand it had an extremely classic english odour and at times the taste was most enjoyable. This is definately one I'll need to try again. Overally a fine medium bodied blend with plenty of character.
