Description

A nice tin gift set from Ardbeg, which includes their 10-year-old (46%) & discontinued 17-year-old (40%) single malts.

Ardbeg Distillery (Scottish Gaelic: Taigh-stail Àirde Beaga) is a Scotch whisky distillery in Ardbeg on the south coast of the isle of Islay, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, in the Inner Hebrides group of islands.

The distillery is owned by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, and produces a heavily peated Islay whisky.  The distillery uses malted barley sourced from the maltings in Port Ellen.

The Ardbeg distillery has been producing whisky since 1798 and began commercial production in 1815.

Please note as this is a vintage miniature, conditions of bottle/label and liquid level can vary - Some years can vary as estimations only (example: estimated 1970s/80s).

Tasting Notes

Ardbeg 10 Year Old:

Nose: A ridge of vanilla leads to a mountain of peat capped with fresh citrus fruits and then rounded off with the aroma of sea spray.
Palate:
Sweet vanilla is counterbalanced with citrus, lemon and lime followed by the surging Ardbeg smoke that we have all come to know and love.
Finish:
Long and stunning; sea salted caramel and beach bonfire smoke complete the glorious finish.

Ardbeg 17 Year Old:

Nose: The gentlest of peats, yet deep and confident with an enticing sweetness – a heady mixture of malts and vanilla. Vaguely salty and very complex with oak present but very much in harness.
Palate: There is a much greater presence of the peat in the taste than the nose suggests. The smokiness quickly hits the palate then tapers off. That said, the middle shows an excellent chewy malt alongside a touch of cocoa.
Finish: The peat returns and guarantees an enormously long finale. The taste of the malt clings on and hints of liquorice and dry toast are detected.
