Description

Buffalo Trace’s stunning bourbon William Larue Weller, named after the man famed for being the first to create “wheated bourbon”, in which the spicy rye grain is substituted for wheat in the mashbill.

This is Kin to the famous Pappy Van Winkle , a rich wheated Bourbon is one not to miss!

The result is a smooth, supple little sippin’ whiskey. Sadly very hard to find, but a stunning whiskey none the less.

If Pappy is best of best this is best of the rest!

Limited to 1 per customer.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Oily, rich. Marzipan, cereals, vanilla and cinnamon spice.

Palate: Heavy oak, spice, burnt toast.

Finish: A touch sweet on the finish, more intense oak and cereal rich.

Bought this on a business trip to Nashville in 2017 after sampling it in Principle Cigars smoking room. Thought it was nice but to be honest I wasnt going crazy about it as compared to the Balvenie 30 we also tried!!! My goodness....thats a separate discussion. Anyway, it had sat amongst a few other bottles in my collection and I decided to re-visit it on a random evening watching Ozark with the wife. OK wow......maybe the general conversations and flavours from an Arturo Fuente 8-5-8 Maduro back in Nashville meant that I wasnt paying attention the first time around but the complex, smooth, cured honey sweetness literally floored me this time....it was a revelation. It has gone from being a nice keepsake from a great city (Music City to be precise) to being a revered gem in my collection. I genuinely cannot remember how much I paid for it but it was no where near the price it is now however........I would actually consider buying it again even at the inflated 2020 price because it simply is that good. This will only be coming out on special occasions. Fingers crossed I get to sample it today after the cup final!!

This delicious bourbon was worth the wait, has smoky oak flavour that lingers and is very smooth. Definitely get again if I can.
