This award-winning bottle is part of Nikka’s Taketsuru range; named in honour of Nikka founder and father of Japanese whisky, Masataka Taketsuru.
He is widely credited with bringing the craft of real single malt whisky to Japan in the 1920’s.
Nikka certainly has a rich history and there is little doubt that the spirit being produced lives up to the high standard set by their ambitious founder! World-renowned British critic Jim Murray had this to say in appreciation about the 17 Year Old.

Taketsuru 21 was crowned World's Best Blended Malt Whisky at the 2010 World Whiskies Awards.
Taketsuru is a blended whisky from Nikka, named in honour of their founder Masataka Taketsuru.
The component whiskies for the Taketsuru 21 Year Old come from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, Nikka’s two malt distilleries.

Nikka Taketsuru 17 Year Old Pure Japanese Whisky - 70cl 43%
Nose: A tropical nose with a touch of cherries and baked apples before a touch of something else such as little toffee and smoke.
Palate: Starts sweetly on the palate but soon the spice and oak kick in with heavier emphasis and the balance is maintained by the roundness.
Finish: Similar to the palate as the touches of vanilla and mocha on the finish.

Nose: Classy aromas of crème brûlée, a hint of sweet spice and delicious rich chocolate followed by some top-class oak on show.
Palate: Rich and big, with a lovely combination of caramelised sugar, milk chocolate and toasty spice, along with candied orange peel.
Finish: Long, the candied fruit blends well with the spice.
