MEERAPFEL

In 1700's the Meerapfel family establishes itself in Michelfeld, Germany, and by the 1800's the first Meerapfel cigar factory was built in Untergrombach by Meir II Meerapfel.

By the 1920's Ernest Meerapfel, son of Meir II, leaves the comfort of Untergrombach, to revolutionize the world of tobacco, bringing back the sacred leaf from territories thus unknown, the precious leaves from Indonesia subsequently become some of the most sought after wrapper tobaccos in the world.

Heller Meerapfel, Ernest's son, leaves for Cuba in the 1950's establishing friendships both within the premium cigar industry and also beyond - World-famous entrepreneurs, politicians, artists, and other opinion leaders all become personal friends of the family. With these relationships Heller is able to lay the foundation for the distribution of premium cigars in the Eastern hemisphere. The pioneering spirit of the family rises to the surface, yet again!

Hellers only son - Richard travels to Cameroon in 1969, falling in love with the place and its people.  Richard creates the miracle of Cameroon tobacco, establishing unique relationships with the local growers, families, and communities. He not only builds the foundation for the most precious, sacred leaf but also brings unprecedented opportunity, hope and salvation to the people of Central Africa and Cameroon.

Richard spends formative years in Cuba to further his knowledge and master the local tobacco craft. He also continues the tradition of trading Cuban leaf. His hard work, values, and handshake make him a most loyal, trusted man of honour, respected throughout the cigar world.  

By 2003 A coup d'etat in the Central African Republic puts the dream at risk, the family is expropriated. Again, as so often in the tragic history of MEERAPFEL, they lose everything.  

During this time Richard, the patriarch and father of the meerapfel family and company, suddenly dies far too early. The difficult and challenging legacy for the brothers Jeremiah and Joshua seems overwhelming. But with the incredible resilience, strength and courage only a very few could command, the brothers build up the company again and proudly perpetuate the legacy. 

As a result, the Meerapfel Cigar project is reborn!

MEIR MASTER BLEND

Meir was influenced by his forefathers: tobacco merchants travelling across the oceans to trade the sacred leaf.

He grew up with a dream that soon turned into a vision; a Meerapfel cigar, manufactured by his very own craftswomen and men, rolled with leaves from his farms.

Vision turned into history when Meir officially incorporated the Meerapfel companies in 1876 in the village of Untergrombach, Germany.
