The Charatan story began in 1863 when Frederick Charatan opened a tobacco shop in Mansell Street, London. There are many stories to tell; from the Charatan family's involvement until 1960 to the exclusive, highly popular cigars produced by Dunhill Tobacco of London in the 90's that made Charatan cigars the #1 Nicaraguan brand in the UK. Over 150 years later the story continues...

Charatan has been blended uniquely for the British cigar smoker using a subtle blend of Seco, Ligero and Volado filler leaves bound with an Indonesian binder from Besuki and wrapped in shade grown Java.

A few years ago, Tor Imports Ltd acquired Charatan from Dunhill Tobacco of London with the ambition of improving the product offering and reinvigorating the brand.

In 2018 they took the first step and transferred the production of Charatan cigars to Joya De Nicaragua; the country's oldest and most prestigious factory. This allowed them to maintain the unique blend of high-grade tobaccos and ensured that they could offer a premium handmade cigar at an affordable price.

As we enter the Roaring Twenties, Tor Imports are giving Charatan a new look that combines legacy and mythology with a bright future for the the brand.

This cigar was a VERY pleasant smoke. Nice and easy going and burned evenly all the way. I smoked it to a nub I enjoyed it that much. Obviously got a little stronger toward the end but still enjoyable. Lasted about an hour while having a couple of drinks in an evening. Will be buying more in the future.

Good looking and feels good to hold. Mild to medium strength with a generic flavour of tobacco, wood and some spice. Does not hold the ash to well as struggled to get an inch of it at anytime through the whole smoke. Through the second and third sections the flavour stayed the same throughout but had to relight a few times because you have to work it otherwise it easily wanted to go out along with uneven burn on a few occasions. I am a very slow and leisurely smoker and this beast of a cigar lasted me 2 hours and close to the end it started to leave bits in the mouth. For the money its worth a try and I will keep one in the humidor for a few months and see if it improves.

An almost perfect cigar. Almost. The taste is so smooth and rich, but not boring. Certainly not demanding in anyway but that just adds to the mood of this cigar. Smoked outside on a lazy hot sunny July afternoon with a glass of beer after a day fishing and it was so easy. The burn was extremely even and steady, no relight was needed during the 90+ minute smoke, and the flavour was consistent throughout (no iffy surprises or bite towards the end). Almost perfect. The draw was a little tight though, so I will try another one first before committing to a box of these. The draw aside this was just lovely and sublime.

Really enjoyed this Charatan Churchill cigar, with its great taste, flavours and feel to it. Great valve for money too, I’ve ordered another one. I definitely would recommend it.

Im no expert but here is my take... This is acceptable for the price. You get a heffer of a cigar. Prior to smoking this i kept it in a humidor (out of the tube) for over 2 months at 72%RH. It burned quite slowly but smoke was mediocre and the draw was a little tight. The flavour was neither too bland or too over powering. I felt like I was smoking a £12 cigar. I normally never do this but I took the ciagr band off (this weakens the wrapper if taken off to early) it started to unravel and burn very unevenly after a third of the way through. I tried to re cut it to give it a second chance but this did nothing. I looks nice, tastes okay, burns slow and has a tight draw. And its also pretty. But please for the love of all things cigars dont maky my mistake. Only take the band off when the burn line is about a half inch away from the band.
