Savinelli Balanzone 320 Smooth Natural Bent 6mm Fishtail Pipe (SAV1612)

The Savinelli brand of pipes was first introduced by its original creator, Achille Savinelli Sr. In 1876, he opened a store in the heart of the Italian city, Milan, located near the famous Piazza Duomo.

Fourteen years later - Achille Savinelli's son, Carlo, took over and ran the store for over 50 years - developing very good relations with his clients. In 1918, Achille Junior was born. As a young man, Achille began his specialization in pipe making in the small workshop in the back of the store where he would work on designing and inventing the pipes. It was in that workshop that the first genuine Savinelli pipe came to light.

When Achille Jr came back from the war, he decided to leave the father’s shop, he started to produce his own pipes and in 1948 he opened the Savinelli factory and workshop. The pipes produced there rapidly began gaining prestige in markets all over the world with their quality.

With this series, Savinelli wanted to celebrate the Italian Carnival with its masks traditionally linked to different cities. Balanzone, who gives his name to this series, is a Doctor of Law: he is, in fact, a caricature of the learned and truncated Bolognese lawyer. His actual name illustrates this, for Balanzone is derived from the Bolognese balanzån, meaning balances, that is, the symbol of the Law. He is dressed in a black toga, white collar and cuffs, great Bolognese hat, jacket and black cloak. He enjoys much esteem among the other masks who often turn to him for legal advice: he speaks and dispenses opinions of no value.

To emulate the figure of this mask, Savinelli chose the 320 KS model with a white mouthpiece and a black and white wavy band to resemble the large neck of his costume. This series is offered in smooth natural and rusticated black finishing. A beautiful box dedicated to the Carnival enriches the product. Model 320 KS, also known as Author shapes, has an unmistakable style. This semi-bent model boasts one of the biggest bowls. Its rounded shapes and the absence of edges make the hold extremely pleasant.
