This Càirdeas 2020 limited edition has been on a multi-cask adventure in aging – and you can certainly taste it.
Càirdeas is Gaelic for ‘friendship’. And friendship is exactly why former distillery manager John Campbell started the annual Càirdeas limited releases back in 2008 – exclusively for Friends of Laphroaig.
The 2020 Port & Wine edition carries on this tradition with a multi-cask aging process.
While some of Laphroaig single malt is matured in classic ex-Bourbon casks, another batch is aged in second-fill Ruby Port barriques.
Finally, the two are combined in red wine casks to complete their journey as a wine finished whisky.
Sip this 52% vol Laphroaig Càirdeas Port & Wine neat or add in a few drops of water to discover even more layered flavours.
Either way, we say it’s best shared with Friends.
Nose: Penetrating aromas of peat smoke and iodine layered with dark chocolate, peaches and plum jam.
Palate: “Medicinal”, smoky, spicy flavours wrapped in sweet hints of honey, chocolate and marshmallow.
Finish: Warm and spicy with lingering smoke and hints of coppery wine.
