E. Guigal has been producing wine since 1946. The E. in the name stands for the company's founder, Etienne Guigal. In 1924, the then 14-year-old Etienne came to Ampuis and founded the Domaine Guigal here in 1946.
Ampuis is considered the cradle of the Côte-Rotie appellation.
The nearly 230 hectares of Côte-Rotie vineyards stretch southwest of the city of Vienne in the northern part of the Rhône.
The vines are over 50 years old and have been kept very low in yield. After the strictly selective harvest, the grapes were taken to the winery as quickly as possible.
After the classic mash fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine matured in large oak barrels for around 38 months.
Food Pairing - Game, red meat and cheese.
Complex and racy, this wine develops subtle notes of pepper and smoky aromas after several years. A true icon of the Côte-Rôtie.
