Following on from the success of Glenmorangie’s Malaga Cask Finish comes this limited-release batch of 13-year-old single malt whisky.
Matured in American white oak bourbon casks and finished in select cognac casks.
Master Distiller Dr Bill Lumsden had long dreamed of introducing the soft, mellow taste of cognac to Glenmorangie’s single malt, but the power of the French oak casks had previously threatened to overwhelm its delicate, fruity spirit.
This time, he carefully selected casks that had been filled many times over, softening the wood influence and bringing subtle notes of clove and pepper and hints of leather to the fore.
Nose: Apple tart and toffee, fruity bursts of baked apples, oranges and pears fill the nose.
Palate: Sweet and almost sparkling, toffee apples and baked pears are scattered with almonds and mandarin orange. The fruitiness is threaded with clove, star anise and soft hints of leather.
Finish: Long, elegant and gently metholic.
