The Charatan story began in 1863 when Frederick Charatan opened a tobacco shop in Mansell Street, London. There are many stories to tell; from the Charatan family's involvement until 1960 to the exclusive, highly popular cigars produced by Dunhill Tobacco of London in the 90's that made Charatan cigars the #1 Nicaraguan brand in the UK. Over 150 years later the story continues...

Charatan has been blended uniquely for the British cigar smoker using a subtle blend of Seco, Ligero and Volado filler leaves bound with an Indonesian binder from Besuki and wrapped in shade grown Java.

A few years ago, Tor Imports Ltd acquired Charatan from Dunhill Tobacco of London with the ambition of improving the product offering and reinvigorating the brand.

In 2018 they took the first step and transferred the production of Charatan cigars to Joya De Nicaragua; the country's oldest and most prestigious factory. This allowed them to maintain the unique blend of high-grade tobaccos and ensured that they could offer a premium handmade cigar at an affordable price.

As we enter the Roaring Twenties, Tor Imports are giving Charatan a new look that combines legacy and mythology with a bright future for the the brand.

At the start of the 1st third, just after the toast and light it was a bit harsh but settled down to a spicy heavy smoke until into the 2nd third when it again settled to a little milder beast. Final 3rd was the most pleasant, physically a bit moist, but a nice cigar. At this price point there are other, better sticks out there; a buy again? Maybe, but others to try first, and other old favorites. A try again, yes, but not cheap and Im getting into my Robustos right now. The finish was the best of this cigar, a bit wet and damp, but a nice end to a good size smoke. Flavour was nothing to rave about, not unpleasant but no 5 out of 5 by any means. Still on my to do again list, just not soon.

Toro is always a great size, colder smoke and more complex. The combination of the spice of the Indonesian tobacco and the sweetness of the Nicaraguan Jalapa tobacco of this blend is very unique on the palate. David - C.Gars Ltd Cigar Ambassador
