Situated high above the river Spey between Knockando and Craigellachie, in Morayshire. Cardhu takes its name from the rocks of the Mannoch Hills where it also takes its water.
The original owner, John Cumming, was a notorious whisky smuggler who had a string of convictions for elicit distilling.
His wife, Helen, was as spirited as her husband and was a master of disguising the distillation process when the excise men came-a-visiting.
Cardhu was also for a time the smallest distillery in Scotland.
