Description

A collection of forty-two different whiskies from the length and breadth of Scotland, selected and bottled by Livingstone in partnership with Elixir Distillers.

Each whisky represents a character from the Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, with illustrations by Sir Quentin Blake and character notes by Dave Broom.

Menteith is one of twelve noble malts in The Thanes series.

For Menteith, a nobleman who marched to oppose Macbeth, we have selected a malt from the ruggedly beautiful Benriach Distillery, which shines bright in various woods.

It is a treat to find it so perfectly expressed, aged 31 years, in these high-quality Bourbon barrels: all the hallmarks of a classic fruit-driven, floral Benriach, with rich caramel and cinder (a nod to the dark) delivered by the casks.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Plums, green apples, blackberry crumble, Bakewell tart (a real one, not Mr Kipling’s) then elderflowers and apple blossoms.

Palate: Brambles, gooseberries, almonds, pecans, peanuts, and a touch of caramel lead into lemon barley water and rolled oats. A few green twigs, bracken, fresh mushrooms, and a prickle of barrel char keep things grounded.

Finish: Long and palate coating, linseed, walnut and olive oils linger after the fruit fades.
