The first Peterson patents awarded to Peters in the 1890’s would revolutionise the pipe-making world and turn a fledgling idea into what has become the oldest continuously operating pipe-maker in the world.

Peterson are the oldest briar pipe makers in the world, still using hand tools for each and every pipe, and still checking everything by eye.

Since 1997, Peterson have offered a special edition Pipe of the Year: a series focused entirely around one singular shape, often inspired or revived from their archives and presented in a number of their most iconic finishes. 2020's Pipe of the Year was modelled after the original 9BC shape, a design dating to the days of Charles Peterson himself, evolving from the original patent shape.

The first new System pipe introduced since the Darwin System (B42), our 2024 Pipe of the Year is a full-bent Rhodesian designed by our Pipe Specialist, Giacomo Penzo. Demonstrating our advances in engineering while maintaning our signature House Style, this new model is now available in a range of finishes, all complete with our patented P-Lip mouthpiece, broad sterling silver wear-gap army mounts, and our iconic "chimney" tenon extension. Bridging our legacy with our commitment to innovation, this limited-edition release introduces a Patent pipe for the modern age. The 2024 Pipe of the Year is presented in a Donegal Irish Tweed protective Pouch.
