Description

Strathmill was converted into a distillery in 1891, from the Strathisla corn and flour mill, in the village of Keith.

The distillery was officially known as Glenisla-Glenlivet distillery until it was bought by W & A Gilbey who also owned Glen Spey.

The distillery was incorporated into IDV in 1962 and has subsequently came under the ownership of GuinnessUDV.

The distillery was modernised in 1965, which saw the distillery double from 2 to 4 stills. The Flora and Fauna single malt series were launched in 1992 by the then owner, United Distillers.

The idea of the launch was to illustrate the differences in Scottish malt whisky regions.

Initially the range was bottled at 43% but later some expressions were released as Cask Strength.

Diageo has since taken over ownership of United Distillers and thus, the Flora and Fauna range. Diageo discontinued the series in 2010.
