Diageo, the world’s largest spirits company, as well as the planet’s largest distiller of Scotch whisky, has been releasing each year, since 2001, a selection of 10 special releases from its hallowed whisky vaults.

The latest 2018 releases consist of bottlings from stocks of now closed distilleries, and special new expressions from their existing lineup of single malts, which features both extra young and extra old age statements, whiskies bottled at cask strength or whiskies not previously available as single malts.

A third entry in the Diageo Special Releases for Pittyvaich - very rare to see as the distillery was closed in 1993 and very few casks have made it out into the wild.

Fortunately for us,  Diageo have released another 1989-vintage edition in the Special Releases, giving us the chance to try the distillery's style.

Matured in refill American-oak hogshead,  the gentle wood influence has revealed a core of fruity spirit.

Limited to 1 bottle per customer.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh fruits, apples and candied oranges builds alongside distillery aromas. Zingy fruit with a background of sultanas and grapes.

Palate: The apples are back combined with hints of yeast. There's a background of spice along with fruity touches – pineapple juice drunk from the tin, a further helping of apples and a touch of mango.

Finish: Mint and orange zest with a touch of yeastiness.

Intriguing and subtle. A complex whisky but however is very tasty indeed. Can certainly taste the fresh fruits and finishes with a hint of mint. Amazing but complex
