Not a lot in the pre light fragrance. Upon lighting the initial draw was very light and reminded me of a hamlet. Slight sweetness, a bit of a light leathery taste. As the first third continued these tastes got stronger and the sweetness levels reduced. By the end of the first third the sweetness was gone and the taste was slightly bitter. The burn was good and even for the first third. No surprises in the second third: the taste of leathery tobacco continue. The burn remains even and for the size of the cigar the ash hold together well. One thing that I noticed was that there is not a lot of smoke output from this small cigar. Into the final third and this cigar has quite a strong leathery taste, the bitter notes are a bit more prevalent. I decided to end this in the final third, I think I could have gotten another 5-10 minutes from it had I persevered, but there wasn't enough taste to make me want to burn my fingers. Overall this was an OK smoke, the cigar smoking time was exactly 25 minutes for me. It is a bit bland on the flavours, a mild cigar that did get a bit bitter towards the end. I'm not sure if I'd go out and buy more, but I certainly wouldn't refuse one if it was offered to me. An average smoke with limited flavours, but at £2 a stick then I wasn't expecting it to rival a premium cigar.

An excellent and good value every day cigar. Well made with a good burn and mellow flavour, Not to be rushed though - a good 30 minutes needed to enjoy.

These are my favourite everyday smoke, I found them to be sweet tasting and easy to smoke. They do however get hot if you rush them so allow a good half an hour to smoke these and they go nicely with some rich Italian coffee. I wouldn't recommend them for your first smoke though, my first every cigar was a Romeo y Julieta no 3 which are not too overwhelming for a first time smoke in my opinion.

I have to say, I've been smoking these for about three weeks now, and for machine rolled cigars, I love them. I've found them to be nice and smooth to smoke, and I can usually get a good 30 minutes out of them. They're not on the same level as Cuban cigars, but they're not meant to be. Worth the money.

These little half coronas generally get a bad rep - I decided to ignore that and give them a chance. Now, my hypothesis regarding their reputation is based upon the price-point being somewhat tailored toward the beginner. Generally, they'll be picked up on a whim as a first foray into cigars; the problem begins! These overheat VERY easily. If you don't respect that, the bitterness is staggering and very off putting. One has to realise that to enjoy these, you must give it time. I have no problems relaxing for a good 35 minutes with one! Take it slow and without the over-heating problems, they're a very tasty little smoke. Woody, earthy and as has already been mentioned, a nice slight sweetness. If you're looking for complexity, this isn't it. However, for good construction, great burn and a comfortable draw, all combined with a lovely smooth taste and pleasant oily texture - go for it! Less than £2 a stick.. come on. Get your self a pack (or two) and enjoy a guilt free, cheapo smoke with a few buddies. 5/5 can't fault them for the price.

I am a beginner cigar smoker and my first cigar was H. Uppman (U.H) Cuban cigar which was very pleasant and enjoyable cigar......highly recommended for a beginner smoker. However, when you compare the HW Half coronas with H.U Cigars they are really are not nice. I found it was very harsh on the back of the throat and had to clear my throat a few times the next day. There are not bad but i would suggest for the similar style cigars try the cuban like the Montecristo and Romeo Y Juliet it would be much better tasting but will set you back in similar price.
