I recently had issues with some of the Cuban cigars Id ordered through C.Gars Ltd and after a brief email correspondence, Mitchel was very generous in gifting me one of these fabulous cigars. This stick offered soft and creamy smoke throughout with mellow ceder notes, slightly more spice compared to the signature no.3 but never so much for it to become overpowering. In the second third a nutty sweetness became the prominent flavour which was perfectly balanced with the slightly spicy retro-hale, at one point I was convinced I could taste roasted popcorn. I was perfectly happy to smoke this cigar right down to the nub, even with the spice becoming far more prominent combined with the heat is never once became overwhelming, harsh or bitter. The official Davidoff website suggests that this cigar offers 25 minutes of enjoyment but I was able to get a solid 45+ minutes out of it and I never had any burn issues or needed to relight. The burn was sharp and consistent and only needed a single minor touch up near the beginning, which was probably down to my inexperience with lighting cigars. The draw was pretty much perfect: not too loose but not too tight, enough resistance for a controlled from start to finish. In terms of strength this cigar was fairly mild although as I moved into the final third I definitely started to feel slightly buzzed, but I never felt like Id need to stop to avoid getting sick. My one and only complaint would be that the adhesive from the band tore the wrapper when I removed it, thankfully it didnt compromise the construction of the cigar. Well... that and the fact that these are too pricey to be an every day smoke for me... but definitely affordable enough to be a weekend treat.
