MONTECRISTO

Montecristo is the best known and probably the most appreciated brand of Havanas throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Havana smokers against which other brands are judged.

The name comes from Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel ‘The Count of Montecristo’, which was a firm favourite when read to the Torcedores (cigar rollers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.

The original Montecristo range of sizes was composed of a narrow assortment numbered from 1 to 5. Today it consists of a wide variety of vitolas to cover every level of the cigar enthusiast’s needs.

Whether it is within the classic medium-to-full line, the lighter Open Series or the newer, more powerful, Linea 1935, Montecristo’s perfectly balanced blends are all created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world.

OPEN EAGLE

The Open range offer Montecristo lovers a medium bodied smoke still offering Montecristos classic flavours.

The largest of the Open series, its commanding 54 ring gauge format houses a different, lighter tobacco blend than you find in standard Montecristos. Suits experienced and novice smokers alike.

Tasting Notes

90 / 100

"There are a few gnarly veins to the wrapper of this otherwise attractive cigar. It burns unevenly, but draws well offering a heady combination of savory wood and nutty notes. The finish is sweet with marzipan an sassafras..."

Impossible to smoke. Plugged, yet again. No draw to speak of. Had to finish, due to absurd cost. I will never touch a Montecristo again. On my life, what are these Cubans playing at ? Allones specially selected and Bolivar Royal Coronas have never let me down, so I’ll be sticking to them, I guess !

Tried my third one gifted to me at a wedding. Ive avoided reviewing any of the Open range so far as I felt I must have just had the worst luck imaginable with these. However I am now ready to add my thoughts. Utter garbage. Well rolled and presented inferior blends offering very little flavour and no complexity at all. Marketed to golfers of course - an easy target for flogging expensive junk to.

Really lovely smoke. Not really much else to be said other than get a box, try one and if you don’t like it, send the rest of the box to me!

Well, just one week more in the Humi has transformed these big boys. Much firmer, and very much better. Rich, chocolatey, with an aroma of Jenny Agutters nearly new shoes.

Picked up a nearly full box of these in Spain from a friend who found them too mild. After 5 weeks in the humi, tried the first one. The construction is good, though loosely packed. I suggest the price reflects this low density. There is nothing offensive in this cigar and if that sounds like faint praise, it is. Its ok, but lacks interest. I would choose an Edmundo over this, every time.
