Xikar Pull Out Punch Cutter 9mm - Silver
Date Added: Saturday 05 May, 2012
I have had my Xikar punch cutter for over a year now and absolutely love it. It is small, elegant, unobtrusive, beautifully made and fabulously effective. I particularly love the satisfying Rolls Royce "clunk" when the magnetic action withdraws the cutting blade and ejects the cut tobacco cap. Thoroughly recommended.

Xikar Xi1 Cigar Cutter - Silver

Well you learn something new every day, My Xikar wedge cutter was closing unevenly when not cutting, always closed more at one side than the other so the cutting action was uneven, my partner said why not soak the cutter in baby oil in a small bowl over night, I did has she said and left the opened cutter in the oil overnight and now the cutting action is even as both blades close together evenly the oil removed fine particles of grit and all the tobacco residue, the cutter is like new now, I think all cutters would benefit from doing this probably once a month.

Xikar Pull Out Punch Cutter 9mm - Silver

Good reasons for using a cigar punch over a cutter, first of all it take up far less space in your pocket and can even be connected to your key ring, it is far easier to use than a cutter which you have to square up to the cigar and making sure you cut above the cap line which may not be well defined, because the cutting action is across the surface of the filler the cutter has to be ultra sharp and the cut made with a fast positive action any hesitancy or if the cutter is even slightly dull will cause deformation of the filler surface and thus reduce the draw of the cigar, using a punch cutter simply penetrate the cap centre with a twisting action then retract, job done!! Because the cutting action is at 90 degrees and towards the internal filler surface under the cap there is no deformation of the filler surface there fore the cigar will retain it's original draw good or bad,

Xikar Xi3 Cigar Cutter - Redwood

The best cigar cutter you can buy, HOW TO DEAL WITH A PLUGGED HARD TO DRAW CIGAR, When the cigar wrapper is applied starting at the foot and ending at the cap the wrapper is twisted like an old fashioned sweet wrapper, cut then pushed into the end to form a flat surface for the cap to be applied, if too much of twisted wrapper is pushed into the head of the cigar it can become plugged, SO HOW TO REDUCE / ELIMINATE HARD DRAW (1) Try rolling the head between your thumb and four finger for about 30 seconds this may loosen the the plugged tobacco (2)Cut the cigar again further down the cap but above the cap rim (3)If (1) or (2) don't work get a needle and gently penetrate several holes to about half the length of the needle in the head parallel with the cigar. MAKE SURE YOUR CIGAR CUTTER IS SHARP so that it cuts the tobacco and not compresses it and KEEP YOUR CIGARS AT BETWEEN 65 to 70% HUMIDITY IN YOUR HUMIDOR.
