Vegueros Mananitas Cigar - 1 Single

I am pufging one right now and all i can say is it is a pepper bomb. An extremely well made stogie. Pergect actually. But i dont normally go for the spicy ones. After the first 10 mins it does cool down to a leathery cedery note. A great alternative to bolivar. Much more pepoer though. I like it but not a daily smoke im afraid.

Samuel Gawith Navy Flake Pipe Tobacco 50g (Tin)
Date Added: Monday 26 March, 2018
Somebody kindly posted a message to me on this forum that Samuel Gawith flakes are always very moist and should be dried out before attempting to smoke them. With that in mind I took out a couple of flakes, rubbed them down to something that I thought resembled rubbed tobacco and then left them to dry for 3 hours and certainly appeared to be less moist. The dry notes of this tobacco are a very strong scent of alcohol (I dont believe this scent is near the sweetness of rum, closer to a whisky scent) and a strange, almost plastic note in there which threw me a bit. The tobacco notes were strong, I believe this may be Latakia as it is quite a bot stronger and bolder than the other tobaccos that Ive tried. I put it in my Peterson straight pipe (with a filter) and, after a bit of difficulty on the initial light, eventually got the pipe going. The tobacco smoked really well after the initial lighting stages, although it did go out on me unexpectedly once (two thirds of the way down) and again at the end. The smoke was quite strong, but certainly was more to my liking given my prefer

Davidoff Winston Churchill Statesman Robusto - 1 Single
Date Added: Monday 26 March, 2018
Had one of these resting in the humidor since October and finally smoked it. Very nice cigar. Rich dark woody flavour with cream and cocoa, black pepper and a little nutmeg spice. Not much in the way of evolution through the cigar, other than a little sour vegetal hint in the last third, and the flavour overall had a touch of dryness about it, but still quite enjoyable. Construction was good with a great, slow burn but the draw was very loose, helping it to burn hot in the last 2 inches, which was a shame.

Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos Cigar - 1 Single
Date Added: Monday 26 March, 2018
Inch for inch, this was the priciest smoke in my humidor and I had been very much looking forward to it. What a disappointment! First, the draw was so tight I was struggling to get much through it. I rolled it around and got it loosened up a bit, but it never quite produced the easy draw and large volumes of smoke I was anticipating. Next, it wouldn’t hold its ash, and it wouldn’t stay lit. I had to relight it three times and after it went out a fourth time I lost the will to try again, with still about an inch to go. Looking at the other reviews, perhaps I was unlucky with the construction of this one. However, overall, this was a very disappointing smoke. I did occasionally encounter the Cohiba flavours I had been looking forward to, but it fell well short of my expectations and I will have to think hard about whether to invest this much again in another one any time soon.

Brick House Teaser Cigar - 1 Single
Date Added: Sunday 25 March, 2018
Very good draw, but the first half of this cigar was a bit harsh. Seeing a strong looking white ash grow I persevered and was rewarded with a lovely unique tasting cigar developing that was very moorish and had a nice little kick to it. I am definitely going to get another one believing that I was unlucky with the first half of this one. It was a pleasure to smoke this interesting enjoyable cigar.

Cohiba Behike BHK 54 Cigar - 1 Single

Unfortunately its not possible to review these cigars while completely ignoring the enormous price mark-up. They can be fantastic cigars, lovely subtle, complex flavours and beautifully rolled.. but the quality and enjoyment is just not in proportion to the huge price. A lot of it is just clever marketing to wealthy cigar smokers with more money than sense. Equally great and even better quality Havana cigars can be found for a small fraction of the price of these. These cigars, at most, should be half the price.
