Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo Du Depute Cigar - 1 Single

Well, after tasting Epicure No.2, this one was like dating ugly Betty. Burn went out 3 times. Wasnt even burning evenly to begin with. Was very light, almost too light. Flavour was very mild with not much happening. Shocking how expensive it is . Daylight robbery! Dont waste your money.

What a great little cigar. Worth every penny imo. Perfect for a lunchtime/ mid afternoon smoke. Creamy and smooth with coffee notes. Quite a tight draw which is why it’s only a 4* instead of a 5*

Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto Cigar - 1 Single

Tight draw. Couple of touch ups needed. Wrapper started to unravel in 2nd third. Kind of fruity room odour. Lasted around 50 minutes, likely due to how tight the draw was. First third: Initial blast of pepper. Usual wood and hay taste thereafter. Very smooth. Second third: Pepper fallen to the background, some nut and creaminess. Hay still there. Finishes slightly fruity. Remains smooth but tight. Final third: Pepper comes back. Retrohale gives a fruity pepper through the nose. Creaminess and nuttiness still here but less so. Ash fell at this stage. Cigar went out so had to relight. For me this cigar has good flavour but construction issues marred my experience. Im going to have to try another to see if I had a bad stick

New to the cigar word so I thought IÂ’d begin mild and work my way up slowly. The construction of the cigar was great. It had a tight ash which held for around an inch and a half. It did need a few touch ups but never needed to be relit. The construction was flawless. No real pepper on the retro till the final third. Notes of general nuttiness and cedar with some complexity towards the end of the cigar. A really enjoyable smoke I would recommend.

Had this cigar for the first time today and I really enjoyed it. Perfect mid-afternoon smoke with a coffee whilst watching the football. I’m a slow smoker and I got half an hour out of this. This one is ideal if you are only the occasional cigar smoker, nice and light with that classic Cuban quality. I prefer this to the Cohiba and montecristo equivalent - I do think the Romeo petit royale edges it though.

Overall a 7/10 stick mainly let down by its poor draw, I purchased two of these cigars and after attempting the first one I assumed it was just a plugged cigar but I then realised that it is just a tightly packed cigar. Despite the draw making it a little bit of hard work the flavours were quintessentially Cuban, definitely on the milder side as you would expect from the Upmann portfolio progressing to medium in the final third at which time I encountered strong peppery notes as the draw also loosened up. Not unsmokable just hard work ! An overall decent stick with great flavours and complexity.
