Waterford Hook Head 1.1 Irish Whiskey - 50% 70cl

Waterford is the latest venture of Mark Reynier, the former CEO of Bruichladdich in Islay.

All of Waterford's whiskies are made using 100% malted barley and are natural and non-chill filtered with a slow fermentation and unhurried distillation to extract maximum flavours.

The maturation takes place half a kilometre from the sea and uses premium quality French and American casks; a combination of first-fill and new oak barrels.

Waterford proudly utilises 100% demonstrably Irish-grown barley from one farm, one terroir for each release.

Hook Head 1.1 is the first edition made using barley grown at the 'Hook Head Farm'.

Aged in a combination of casks including first-fill Virgin American oak and French oak, this Irish single malt was bottled up at 50% ABV without any added colouring or chill-filtration.

Nose: Earthy maltiness and aromas of fresh earth combine with citrus peel, bread crust, the spice of cloves and white pepper, then caramel, milk chocolate and salted popcorn, to aromas of fresh hay and green oak leaves.

Palate: Intensely spicy with cloves and white pepper, with salted caramel, liquorice and ginger biscuits as well as lemon peel and chili chocolate.

Finish: Dry, but with a persistent oiliness that keeps the sharpness for a long time.
