Herman Upmann was a banker from Germany who so loved Cuban cigars that he moved to Havana in 1844 and set up as both banker and cigar maker. His bank closed in the early 1920's but his cigars live on as a fine example of an elegant, light to medium flavoured Habano.

H. Upmann's blend is composed exclusively of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone.

Gold medals in no less than eleven international exhibitions during the 19th Century can be found on the brand's labelled boxes.

Tasting Notes

This cigar is creamy with hints of coffee and some nutty flavours as well. This small havana promises to have a good future. Attractive, good draw, thick smoke with complex flavors for such a small cigar. Simply excellent.

First time trying a H.Upmann. Unfortunately like many others who have left a review mine was pretty tight. The first 3rd was tight but smoke able, 2/3 was tighter but just about got a draw. But the last 3rd was unsmokeable. Which is unfortunate because taste-wise it was a very nice smooth light smoke. I will buy again in hopes to get a better drawing cigar.

Just tried one of these as part of a sampler jar. Unfortunately it was so tightly plugged it was unsmokable. Other than about the first and last 1/4 of an inch it was as solid as a rock. I couldnt even rescue it with my perfec-draw tool. I was hoping this would prove to be a decent everyday cigar, as the most recent reviews suggested that quality control issues had improved, but I guess I will have to keep looking. I hope the rest of the sampler smokes better than this. Complete disappointment for me Im afraid.

What a delightful little smoke- very mild and mellow but full of flavour. I wholeheartedly recommend this bargain cigar to anybody that is unsure of what to purchase. Enjoy!

A very mild and pleasurable cigar to be enjoyed both by newbies and experienced cigar smokers. A consistent, smooth draw with a very mild flavour that is ideal on its own or with a drink. Perfect in the afternoon or before a meal and lasts around 1 hour if being smoked slowly and enjoying the flavours. Under £9 for an authentic Cuban cigar boasting a delicate flavour and great smoking experience. Definitely one to keep stocked up in the humidor.
