In the 19th century, industrious farmers and distillers in the heartland of the United States barreled and shipped their rye whiskeys down the great Mississippi River to the bustling, growing city of New Orleans.

These spicy and assertive spirits fuelled the whiskey culture of New Orleans and established the first American cocktail, The Sazerac.

Sazerac Rye Whiskey is rumored to be made from a mash of 51% Rye, 39% Corn and 10% Malted Barley.

Following distillation, the whiskey is aged for a minimum of six years in the Kentucky heat, before a small batch of barrels are married together.

Sazerac Straight Rye earned a score of 94.5 points from Jim Murray's Whisky Bible, and a score of 95 points from Wine Enthusiast, which called it a "Best Buy."

Tasting Notes

Nose: Aroma of rye, malt, cinnamon, cloves and black pepper. The aroma gives way to notes of chewy caramel, vanilla, spicy rye.

Palate: Similar to the nose with the caramel, vanilla and spice with candied citrus.

Finish: Ends with a touch of dried fruits and rye.

This is good stuff! Drink this and be taken back hay bailing in an episode of Little House on the Prairie. Sweet, dry grass and well controlled fire in the mouth. I tried this with a Hoyo Epicure No.2 and due to the light-volatile aromatics of this Rye it worked very well. For me, a mouthful of summer, thoroughly enjoyed it and was left wanting more! 100% recommend and would buy for myself.

Firstly I’m a cognac drinker , reason being years ago I tried whiskies and really didn’t like them I tried all sorts but they just didn’t do anything for me , so tried remy Martin vsop and loved it . Few years later thought I’d give whisky another go and I saw this rye and heard good things . No still not for me it’s to harsh and really just tastes of alcohol to me with a weird taste of herbs or something
