Savinelli Dry System 614 Smooth Dark Brown 9mm Filter Pipe (SAV1252)

The Savinelli brand of pipes was first introduced by its original creator Achille Savinelli Sr. He opened a store in the heart of the Italian city of Milan in 1876 where it was located near the famous Piazza Duomo.

In January 1890, Achille Savinelli's son, Carlo, took over and ran the store for over 50 years where he was able to develop very good relations with his clients. In 1918 Achille Junior was born. and as a young man, Achille began his specialization in pipe making in the small workshop in the back of the store where he would work on designing and inventing the pipes. It was in that workshop that the first genuine Savinelli pipe came to light. 

When Achille Jr’s came back from the war, he decided to leave the father’s shop and he started to produce its own pipes and in 1948 he opened the Savinelli factory/workshop. The pipes produced there rapidly began gaining prestige in markets all over the world with there quality.

Savinelli pipes are 100% Made in Italy with values including history, passion, fancy, elegance, and attention to every detail which makes these objects stand the test of time. 

In 1981, after several years of research, Savinelli launched the “Dry System”, combining trap and filter. The name “Dry” comes from the introduction of the balsa “filter” into the traditional system pipe - the “System” being the presence of the built-in moisture trap in the shank.

The balsa mops up the moisture in the smoke hence the term “Dry” system, and if the pipe is smoked without the balsa all that will happen is that this moisture will condense and collect in the trap. It can then either be mopped up with a folded pipe cleaner, or flicked out.

Model 614 belongs to the classic Billiard style. As you can see, it is surely the model with the most pronounced bend. The bend is so sharp which requires different more passages during the finishing. An extraordinarily elegant model not advised to less expert smokers.
