Herman Upmann was a banker from Germany who so loved Cuban cigars that he moved to Havana in 1844 and set up as both banker and cigar maker. His bank closed in the early 1920's but his cigars live on as a fine example of an elegant, light to medium flavoured Habano.

H. Upmann's blend is composed exclusively of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone.

Gold medals in no less than eleven international exhibitions during the 19th Century can be found on the brand's labelled boxes.

For those of you reaching for the dictionary for the spelling of “Connoisseur” (or typing it into Google as is probably more the case these days), your suspicions will indeed be confirmed. The small error on the box, band and ribbon has been noted and will be rectified by Habanos S.A. on future production runs. This I am sure will make the current batch with the incorrect version somewhat of a valuable collector’s item.

Tasting Notes

89 / 100

"Two prominent, gnarly veins stretch along the wrapper of this tawny-coloured toro, which burns evenly. It's earthy and floral, but also imparts notes of salt with a touch of sweetness and an underlying spice."

I echo comments regarding uneven burn. I had to touch it up a number of times which was quite irritating to be honest. However, classic mellow low strength Upmann cigar. My cigar personally was quite hard to draw on. I suspect I was just unlucky as Ive not had this problem with Upmann before. It loosened up in the last half hour so it wasnt all hard work!

A lovely smoke, nice easy draw producing lots of creamy smoke, very smooth. Burn was a little uneven but still produced a strong long ash. Very satisfying.

I'll keep it short and sweet. If you like smoking the Upmann magnum 46 & 50, you should try this. Its a very smooth sweet tasting cigar. It has a thick creamy taste with dark chocolate snf coffee taste. The amount of smoke it produces is similar to its siblings. The only negative issue I found was that the burn was not even but saying that, ig built I would say 2.5 inches of ash before falling off. I've still got another one and will see of that has uneven burn or whether it was that specific cigar that had the burn issue. In conclusion, give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
