Rafael Gonzalez was created in the 1930's.

It was in this brand that the 6 1/2 inch by 42 gauge cigar, which has the factory name of Cervantes, was the first called a Lonsdale after Lord Lonsdale, the famous English sporting Earl and cigar aficionado of that period. Now many other brands use the name as well.

On its lid label each box carries a curious inscription written in English to the effect that the cigars should be smoked within one month of the date of shipment from Havana or otherwise they should be carefully matured for about one year.

Rafael Gonzalez cigars contain a light tasting blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone.

Tasting Notes

Mild in aroma and flavour, best after a light summer lunch. The construction is very good and the draw is excellent, all a good representation of what a mild cuban should be.

"...A box-pressed little smoke with a gritty wrapper and three-seam cap. Dry walnut and leather notes become lighter with touches by balsa wood, hay and flowers..."

CGars replaced this cigar and it was delicious. Plenty of creamy smoke with lovely flavour my faith is restored.

Now I usually love this cigar but unfortunately my recent one didnÂ’t smoke at all. First time this has happened to me. Tried perfecdraw but couldnÂ’t get anything out of it. Just a one off but a shame all the same

I too got meaty, gravy flavours from this, and excellent construction too.

I found the more savoury flavours nice but surprisings, as with the woody nut there was sweet beef gravey... yes, although I cant see anyone else saying this, Im sure it was there for me, after three sticks... The draw was slightly tight on the box pressed samples that burned perfectly and would decribe as a mild Cubans, with a slightly oily unblemished medium brown wrapper. As a Mareva Im unsure of a box, as prefer the Monti, RYJ and the Por Larranaga, but would recommend buying a few of these from C.gars and see what you think and award four stars

What a great little stick , full of aroma , smooth draw , not overpowering like its other Cuban siblings , ideal for beginners who are looking into developing their palate and also for experienced cigar aficionados . Well priced for what it offers .Will invest in 4-5 sticks and leave them in the humidor for ageing
