You could say that the story of the remarkable Peter Stokkebye Cigarette Tobaccos began in 1931, when Peter was born in Odense, Denmark. But in reality, the story begins two generations earlier, when Peter’s grandfather, Erik Peter Stokkebye, opened the family’s first tobacconist shop in 1882.

Peter spent decades perfecting the tobacconist’s art. In the 1950s, he worked for the Universal Leaf Company, where he learned about leaf from the ground up while touring the tobacco fields of Kentucky, the Carolinas and Tennessee. In the 1960s, he gained an education in the manufacturing process while serving as the production manager at the L’Orange cigarette factory in Geneva, Switzerland.

Having perfected his craft, Peter started his own tobacco factory in the 1970s. It was then that he began his quest to reinvent cigarette tobacco in the United States. He recognized that there was a new type of consumer emerging who didn’t want to simply chain smoke through a pack of cigarettes. These new consumers were connoisseurs who wanted to savour their smoking moments and desired nothing less than the finest tobaccos in the world. As a third generation tobacconist with decades of experience, Peter was uniquely suited to meet this desire.

The result: Peter Stokkebye Cigarette Tobaccos in six distinct blends designed for discerning palates. From the bold smokiness of Amsterdam Shag to the delicate and aromatic Turkish Export, each blend is distinct with no equal.

Peter passed away in 2003 at the age of 72, but the family’s rich legacy in the tobacco trade continues with his son, Erik Stokkebye.

I received this as part of a sampler and i have to say i really enjoyed it. It is not very sweet which i believe to be a positive as appose to a negative. The flavours were subtle but not absent and the nutty, slightly earthy almost chocolate taste i was getting went really nice with a hot chocolate ..... Don't judge me. Its a nice anytime smoke.

This was one of the first pipe tobacco blends I ever tried and I find myself returning to it again and again. I find it to be the ideal balance of aromatic and natural tobacco flavours. It can occasionally be slightly sharp when first lit, but very quickly settles down into a wonderfully mellow smoke, giving notes of honey, nut and chocolate with a delicate room aroma. This is an ideal smoke for people who are looking for a sweet aromatic blend, but find the American style aromatics to be too heavily scented. Also very well suited for beginners, or as an early morning smoke as it is very forgiving on the palate. -Calum, Turmeaus Chester.
