Montecristo is the best known and probably most appreciated brand of Habanos throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Habanos smokers against which other brands are judged.

The name comes from the hero of Alexandre Dumas' famous novel 'The Count of Montecristo,' which was a firm favourite when read by the Lector to the Torcedores (cigar makers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.

The original Montecristo range of sizes was composed of a narrow assortment numbered from 1 to 5. Today it consists of a wide variety of vitolas to cover every level of the cigar enthusiast's needs.

Montecristo's perfectly balanced blends are created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world.

This cigar from Montecristo, the Double Edmundo, was announced at the 2013 Habanos festival alongside the Petit Piramide. Both of these new Montecristo cigars come baring the new embossed Montecristo band.

Tasting Notes

89 / 100

"...Though reedy and dry at first, this large cigar warms to show a tasty smoke redolent of almonds, orange peel and tea. The burn and draw are even throughout..."

I bought a 3 pack of these cigars and have learnt some important lessons. All 3 were tight draws. And I took the first 2 on holiday to Maderia where the temperature was hotter than the UK. Lesson 1 was heat increases the moisture and relative humidity in the stick and can ruin a good cigar making the flavour harsh. Lesson 2, a plugged stick can prevent oxygen igniting all the tobacco in the stick and making it a harsh smoke. Lesson 3 both these problems are not problems with the cigar and both can be remedied. The last stick I kept in a zip lock bag for a couple months with a 69% RH boveda and smoked it on new years day 2023. I unplugged the cigar with the PerfectDraw tool they sell on here under accessories. The result was an excellent smoke and overall burn time over 2 hours but about 1hour 45 of this was the excellent characteristic creamy and spicy Montecristo smoke. An excellent cigar and fitting smoke to welcome in New Years Day 2023!! How you keep your cigars is of paramount importance. Happy New Year All. Cheers

Recently had my 2nd Double Edmundo (felt i rushed the first one approx 6 months ago so was keen to have another go). I have to say that it didn't live up to expectation! I found it to be quite a tight roll and therefore the draw was quite hard, also it didn't burn evenly. I felt i had to keep drawing it quite hard too just to keep the thing lit. I persevered for a while but approx 2/3 in i decided to get the cutter on it & start again. This final 3rd was much different and while we were at the business end, it was more enjoyable. The cigar itself was more plyable as i'd been holding it around this point originally. I'm not sure if the difference was just the fact the roll wasn't as tight?! While i appreciate not every cigar will be perfect, i don't think i will be purchasing another one of these. Had a couple of goes now & there is so much more to try on the market

I went to the puffin' rooms in Liverpool for my birthday, had this Cigar with an aged whiskey and it did not dissapoint me. For someone like me who has only been in the cigar scene for about a year it's a great Stick. Start to finish from the first to the final 3rd it keeps its earthy oakie flavours (had a slight sweetness at the beginning) and with a good whiskey on the rocks, it's my perfect cigar.

Just layed this cigar to rest and it certainly didn't disappoint, great construction, about 1 hour smoke, medium leathery earthy taste, would defiantly get this cigar again.
