CUABA

Every Cuaba is made in the distinctive shape known as a double figurado, the style that at the end of the 19th Century was all the rage for Habanos.

Double figurados are at the pinnacle of the cigar makers' art and for this alone they merit a place in every cigar enthusiast's collection.

Cuaba, like Cohiba, is a Taino Indian word dating back to the time of Columbus. It was their name for a highly combustible bush, which the Indians used to light their 'Cohibas.'

Tasting Notes

90/100

"Though firm and floral at first, this thin perfecto opens up once it burns past the taper, revealing a tasty palate of graham cracker, leather and sweet caramel. The spicy finish shows bright notes of ginger and horseradish..."

Bought this after enjoying the cuaba divinos. Lovely looking cigar and I am a fan of the shape already. Easy to light and perfect draw straight off providing plenty of smoke. IÂ’m no expert but the taste definitely changed from 1st to last third. Lovely earthy tones with something else I canÂ’t place but very tasty. Will be ordering more as perfect for 30 min day smoke

Probably the worst (Cuban) cigar IÂ’ve ever smoked. Uneven burn, plugged and the draw was so tight I almost hyperventilated. This was after a v-cut then a cross v-cut and eventually a straight cut. The cigar was unevenly rolled with a hollow section in the second third and a practically solid head. The wrapper started unravelling from the moment I lit up. I have read that figurados are rolled by the best rollers. Heaven knows what the cigars are like when rolled by a lesser experienced torcedor. However, I had one draw that was slightly creamy during the final third. Small consolation in my opinion. Overall, a disappointing waste of thirty minutes of my life.

Gave this a go after a heavy meal of spaghetti Bolognese and a healthy dose of Malbec, and it worked wonderfully. Started of with the last of the Malbec and finished it with a strong black Colombian coffee. Even burn throughout, although the draw was very tight and needed a bit of coaxing with an enhancer and a bit of heavy cutting. But it was worth the effort. Consistently smooth throughout with little, subtle changes and overall a pleasant smoke. Nothing to write home about, but definitely worth a punt. If youre not sure Id say go for it. Grab a couple and see what you think. Its certainly good enough for me to want to try other vitolas from Cuaba.

I have smoked a number of these cigars, and I am a fan of this shape and size of cigar. That being said, it wont be for everyone. I enjoyed my last one with a bourbon whiskey over ice after work. What I like about the figurado shape is that the flavour profile noticeably changes from 1st 3rd until the final 3rd. This is a full bodied cigar, not for novice smokers. Flavour notes I picked up were coffee, earth, and brown sugar with a consistent tobacco taste. It worked well with the bourbon, as the molasses flavour of the drink conplimented the brown sugar flavours of the stick.

Very poor draw and uneven burn, very strong and earthy cigar that has no profile change throughout. 35 mins burn time
