COHIBA

Cohiba is the flagship brand of Habanos.

It was created in 1966 for President Fidel Castro himself and was made at the then top secret, but now world famous, El LLaguito factory. At first, it was only seen outside Cuba as gifts for heads of state and visiting diplomats.

Since 1982 Cohiba has been available in limited quantities to the open market.

The name is an ancient Taino Indian word for the bunches of tobacco leaves that Columbus first saw being smoked by the original inhabitants of Cuba - the earliest known form of a Habano.

The leaves for Cohiba are the "selection of selection" from the 5 finest Vegas de Primera in San Juan y Martinez and San Luis districts of the Vuelta Abajo zone.

Uniquely amongst Habanos up to three of Cohiba's filler leaves , the seco, ligero and the rare medio tiempo, undergo an additional fermentation in barrels. This unique process produces a special aroma and flavour you will only find in Cohiba.

ROBUSTO SUPREMOS

Habanos Limited Edition for 2014: ‘ Cohiba Robustos Supremos’. Measuring an impressive 5“ x 58 ring gauge and presented in sliding lid boxes of 10.

No cigar in either the current Habanos standard portfolio or long list of recent Specialities can claim such a girth as the Robusto Supremos and it is sure to quickly become an iconic and much sought after cigar.

Limited Edition cigars are made from specially selected tobacco leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone that all have been aged for a minimum of two years.

Tasting Notes

92 / 100

"A dark, thick cigar draped in an oily wrapper. It holds a firm ash as it imparts floral smoke that becomes meaty and sweet with cocoa. The finish is toasty and oaky..."

Without doubt a wonderful cigar. Luckily I got my box when they were half the price they are now. My only regret is that I didnt buy more.

The best cigar I've ever had. This was an absolute pleasure to smoke. The draw was surprisingly easy, a little too easy some may say. Smoke time was roughly just over an hour. If you are contemplating smoking any special/limited edition cigar this is an absolute must.

Cohiba’s Edicion Limitadas are always awesome. However, this one really stepped it up a notch. Released in 2014, they are still the heaviest gauge Havana ever released, boasting a beefy 58 ring gauge. The extra girth gives the blender extra room to show off Cohiba’s amazing blend, with added depth and complexity with a beautiful chocolate flavour. They’re starting to get a little rare now, so snap them up quickly, it might be the last Christmas you have a chance to get one! Calum - Chester

Sorry to dampen everyone's spirits over this one but I tried one at a cigar tasting this week and it was rubbish. The cigars were delivered direct by the H&F rep so provenance is not an issue. Is it possible to have 2 dud boxes? I don't know but nearly 30 attendees seemed generally non plus/uninspired. I always try to find a positive but I really can't on this occasion. Myself and a friend battled to the end of our sticks and to be honest we were both relieved when it was over. Normally I would have put it down to a couple of dud sticks but in light of the above I would avoid like the plague. Later in the evening we moved on to a Bolivar regional edition, this was a cracker and saved the night, one could sense the raise in good cheer after the disappointment of the Cohiba. I have been meaning to try one of the Behike range but now that has gone to the bottom of the list. I've never been a huge Cohiba fan but I don't mind the Siglo VI.

I have been waiting for a happy occasion to smoke this baby, and my teams (Port Vale)first away win of the season seemed suitable. Solid construction and really good looking, I felt like Tony Soprano. Initially, the cigar seemed quite light with plenty of rich creamy smoke. At about half way the strength kicked in. A deep cocoa, dark expresso richness followed. This lasted down to the final inch were I had to finish off reluctantly. Superb burn which lasted me around 50 mins. At the minute, I love Cohiba!
